“Here He Comes to Save the Day”

[audio http://aricmarshall.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/12-how-great-thou-art.mp3]
O.k., so what if this is a Mighty Mouse quote… I’m o.k. with my age :)  This quote is appropriate for my post today.  Why?  I want to remind us that Jesus is the winner.  Jesus is the reason we still live!  Jesus is, plain and simple, the reason for everything.  Jesus has already taken Satan down, He has already saved us from the pit of hell, He has already seated us at the right hand of God… what more do we need to be victorious today?  Here is a great quote from Charles Spurgeon:
Inasmuch as Jesus has gone before us, things remain not as they would have been had He never passed that way.… Read the rest

Dr. Seuss’ Worship

Remember Dr. Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham”? As I was reading a book called “Generations of Praise—The History of Worship” I read a section on where worship has taken place at over the years and where the best place to worship was.… Read the rest

Tearfully Proud of S.C.C.C.

The church world-wide is a fantastic topic of discussion but I want to focus on our congregation here at Santa Clara Church of Christ in this article.  I am so very proud of our church here!  I have been a part of this churches history for 44 years now and love this congregation with a passion that brings me to tears at times.  This past week I have seen Santa Clara shine so very bright in serving, caring, and selflessness to our own hurting and to the community around us.  From the time we heard of tragedy in our midst people showed up to be the “Church” at the hospital; caring, loving, crying, and praying.  I do realize that our boasting should be in the Lord as Ps.… Read the rest

Forgiveness

How easy is it to forget (forgive) a fault of someone?  It seems that as human beings we are, generally speaking, easy to find fault in someone else.  Why is that?  Do we need to find fault in someone in order to hide our fault or enlist an army to prove our point?  I heard this song this morning on Air1 and thought it fitting… maybe for you, maybe for me, but for whoever this might touch remember that…

Thank You, Margaret

In loving memory of Margaret Hogberg:
—————-
Margaret, thank you for…

your endless generosity
your gracious smile
the love you had for Bob
the endless mounds of spaghetti
your example of a servant
the example of Christ in you
your willingness to allow many college students in your home
serving and being the Church
the example of loving our Savior
… the memories (of which a small amount is listed here)

Margaret Hogberg was (and still is!) a rare find!  She portrayed what the Church is to be through her generosity and love.  She is now Home with her Lord and Savior and I may just be a little jealous (in a longing sense).  Margaret, I will never forget you and what you meant to me… if I have any ounce of servanthood it is because of what you showed me through those years of knowing you.  Thank you!… Read the rest

What Is So Special About “Special Music”?

Hello everyone!  I have a question that a lot of Worship Ministers & Worship Leaders have, I’m sure, struggled with.
Maybe you all can give insight: What’s so special and/or why do we allow “special music” in our services?  And why, may I ask, do we call it “special”?… Read the rest

The Cross Holds Us Together!

luminin

I’ve recently been astonished at information brought to my attention about Laminin.  If you haven’t heard of this word and it’s meaning you will want to check it out.  It will reaffirm the power of God in your life as well as the power of the cross.  Is God for real?  Does He really have things under control?  Is He really that powerful?  Does He really know the future?  How well does He really know me?  All these questions are answered in this one function of the body that God has put in place called Laminin.  Here is the YouTube video: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e4zgJXPpI4]
Here, also, is the Wikipedia of what Laminin is and does: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laminin
I cannot begin to describe this little protein and the importance it has to the human body, and as well, the corresponding affects the cross has on our Christian life.  Please take a look at the video and check out the link as well.… Read the rest

“Grateful Living”

sunset-ocean

As much as I enjoyed the musical aspects and the long drawn-out improvisational techniques of “The Grateful Dead”, I could never get over the name.  For one, I’m not keen on the idea of a “dead person” being able to have the ability to be ‘grateful’.  As a Christian I understand that after my life here is past I will enter into eternity where I will continue my state of being grateful.  Getting to the “Grateful Living” portion… It is here in the state of being grateful that the Christian draws close to God.  In the moments of pure gratitude for what God has done for us in which we have been “… raised up with Christ…” it is here that we express in many ways our gratitude.  We are in essence “Grateful(ly) Living” our lives for Christ and His cause.  Have you stopped today and given thanks to God for all things in your life?  Even your trials?  I’m thankful for my wife and two boys, my extended family, my church family, the ministry God has placed me in, the people who are on my team at SCCC, the Elders at SCCC who lead by example, the staff I work with each day (yes, even you Luke…:), and the hope of heaven!  There are so many other things but I’ll stop there for now.… Read the rest
